Back in May 1975 the first liquor store on Thomas drive opened up to the public with no bar no seating or drive thru.
As Thomas drive grew so did Ms Newbys, adding a bar with four stools and a drive thru window for "drinks to go"!!!
Within five years 1980 we had two dozen stools for locals to enjoy our famous Hunch Punch while all the visitors as always piled in to line up three deep.
During the eighties business continued to thrive as condos grew up and MTV filled the beaches with crowds. With growing tourism we added the 'Four Seasons Lounge' on front Beach Rd and also "Some Place Else" on the curve of Thomas drive now known as "Newbys TOO'..
In 2004 we added the patio to Ms Newbys Package Lounge allowing for live music, Karaoke and other entertainment.
Sadly in September of 2004 we lost our ever popular owner Melva Newby and now Newbys continues to provide all the fun and games to many residents and visitors all year long by her daughter Charlotte and the many long term employees. Thanks for your Continued support.

A Taste of Newby History
In 1973, Newby’s Beach Supply opened at the corner of
Joan and Thomas Drive in Panama City Beach.
Then on Memorial Day Weekend in 1975, Ms. Newby’s
opened with no drive-through or bar and a dirt parking lot
out front. Newby’s Too (The Curve) opened in 1977 and,
a few years later, Four Seasons opened.
As business grew, Newby’s expanded inside and a patio bar was added in 2005 which allows live music, karaoke and events like Thunder Beach. We think we have grown as much as we possibly can and all that is left is to sit back and enjoy.
While in college, I attended a party and was served a punch drink that really had a punch. It sported 190 proof liquor with juice and fruit. When I told my Mom about this drink, she thought it would make a great signature house drink. Hunch Punch was born and literally served out of a punch bowl for 50 cents per 9 oz. cup. After a time of experimentation with this drink (our customers being the guinea pigs), a final recipe was made and is still used today.
Liquors that are 190 proof cannot be purchased in Florida today, but Hunch Punch is ½ of our strongest liquors and ½ punch, which is what really makes the drink so “good.” A lot of time and work is devoted to keeping up with the demand for this famous drink.

People come to Newby’s from all over to get the drink and our special Hunch Punch cups which have been spotted in places around the world such as England, Germany, Iraq, Afghanistan and the top of Mt. Fuji in Japan.
Newby’s is proud to still be in business after 35 wonderful years and hope to be around another 35. The Newby family extends its thanks and appreciation to all our long-term and faithful customers, as well as to all of you that visit from time to time.
We are looking forward to serving everyone coming down for this year’s Thunder Beach event. We have been told that Newby’s is “Ground Zero,” so be prepared to see old friends, meet new ones and have a memorable experience and a whole lot of fun.
